Corner House Extension, Edinburgh
Our client’s house was typical of many traditional Edinburgh house layouts. A small kitchen with neighbouring small dining room made it difficult for our clients to socialise with their large family and friends. As a keen chef, our client like to entertain regularly and often had to accommodate visiting family from overseas for long periods.
As such, our brief was to extend the kitchen whilst removing the wall between it and the dining room. We noted the house almost had a view of the Pentland hills but due to the orientation on the site, this was not possible. This drove the concept to remove the ground floor corner of the house and create an angled extension which addressed the views and garden in a way previously impossible.
Large window seats were designed to accommodate guests who could then socialist whilst our client was cooking up dinner.
A small room at the rear of the garage was converted into a snug TV lounge.
