What We Do
At Jefcoate Anderson we create architecture that works for the people who live, work, and spend time in it. From improving existing homes to designing new houses, small developments, historic buildings, and community spaces, we take a practical, common-sense approach.
Every project is different, but we always focus on good design that fits the place and meets our clients’ needs — working closely with you every step of the way to make the process clear and manageable.
Evolving Homes and Lifestyles
We help clients adapt and improve their existing homes — adding clarity, flow, and a stronger connection to their surroundings.
Every project begins with understanding how you live and what you need. Whether it’s an extension, internal alterations, or a complete reconfiguration, our designs are elegant, practical, and tailored to each home, client and budget.
With broad experience in planning, historic buildings, and complex sites, we guide projects from initial concept through to completion on site.
Bespoke Houses — From Concept to Completion
We design new homes that respond to their setting and the lives of the people who will live in them. Whether rural, suburban, or coastal, our homes are contemporary, sustainable, and rooted in context.
Our process is collaborative and comprehensive — from feasibility to delivery on site. We’re Passivhaus certified, and even when full certification isn’t required, we apply low-energy design principles throughout.
We’re also experienced in off-site timber frame construction and can take our designs directly to one of several trusted timber frame manufacturers to support early cost certainty, simplify the construction process, and accelerate the programme. Off-site manufacture also aligns well with low-energy design, offering precision, quality control and reduced site waste.

Working with History
We work with historic buildings and sensitive sites, balancing preservation with considered, contemporary design. From adapting Category A listed townhouses to introducing new elements in conservation areas, our approach is always site-specific and design-led.
We understand the importance of materials, craftsmanship, and architectural language. Our team brings both creativity and technical knowledge, navigating planning and listed building consent with care and clarity. We collaborate closely with local authorities, conservation officers, and specialist consultants to deliver well-judged, respectful solutions.
Context-Led Housing Solutions
We work with developers, landowners and housing providers to design well-considered residential developments that make the most of their site and setting.
Whether it’s a modest rural cluster, suburban infill, or the conversion of an existing building, our focus is always on good placemaking, buildability and long-term value.
We can support projects from early feasibility and capacity studies through to planning consent, technical design and delivery on site.
Our designs balance efficiency and character, and we understand the practical pressures of development — including phasing, viability, and local authority expectations — without compromising on quality.
Beyond The Home
While much of our work is residential, we also design spaces for work, leisure and community life. From sports clubs and small workplaces to hospitality and creative reuse, we bring the same thoughtful, context-driven approach to every project.
We listen carefully, design with purpose, and deliver buildings that feel right for their setting and the people who use them. Whether it’s a new-build or the sensitive adaptation of an existing structure, our work balances function, character, and long-term value.
We’re experienced in working with varied user groups, tight urban sites, and ambitious briefs — and we tailor our service to suit each project’s needs.
