Mosque and Cultural Centre
Jefcoate Anderson Architects were appointed as technical architects for the conversion of a former community building to a mosque and cultural centre. Â
Supporting London based interior designer and mosque design specialist, Aasif Koorjee, we were responsible for working with their concept sketches to prepare detailed working drawings for all aspects of the project including jali screens, bespoke joinery and furniture, interior water features and ambient lighting.
Traditional Islamic geometries and motifs are repeated throughout the building. This use of geometry is typical in Islam and is thought to reflect the language of the universe, life and the greatness of creation.
In the lobby, a water feature serves as a focal point, with four vertical channels of running water formed in turquoise marble representing the four rivers of paradise as described in the Old Testament.
