Garden Extension, New Town, Edinburgh

Our Client first approached Jefcoate Anderson Architects to assist in their search for a new home in Edinburgh’s New Town, following their return to the U.K. after years of working abroad.

After settling on a wonderful, A-listed, garden flat, a few minutes walk from Stockbridge, our client tasked us with designing an extension from which they would be able to fully appreciate the garden space and enjoy generous amounts of natural light.

Adopting a simple, muted pallet of random rubble sandstone, zinc and dark grey windows the extension projects into the garden and as it does, the solid stone walls which link back to the existing building give way to extensive glazing overlooking the newly landscaped walled garden. Large sliding patio doors lead out to a patio of sandstone flags and on to lushly planted, drystone terraces which gently arc around the extension.

Our Client is delighted with the result, describing the space as, the perfect space to start my day – whatever the weather it always lifts my spirits.’

Completed on site in 2019.
