Two Contemporary Homes, Barnton, Edinburgh
Jefcoate Anderson Architects were appointed by one of our developer clients as architects for the replacement of a 1950’s single storey detached house with two contemporary semi-detached houses, in Barnton, Edinburgh.
Each house comprises a large open plan kitchen, living/dining space with large sliding windows leading out to the south facing garden, and four generous bedrooms.
External materials are a simple and effective palette of proprietary self-coloured render walls, brick and ‘accent’ panels of western red cedar cladding and alu-clad triple glazed windows. The flat roofs are finished with a low maintenance sedum flat roof system which offers both ecological and practical benefits.
The houses have been designed to be highly energy efficient, adopting renewable technologies along with high levels of insulation and air tightness.
