Sustainability
At Jefcoate Anderson Architects, we aim to design buildings that are carefully considered — minimising both environmental impact and future running costs. We see every project as an opportunity to make a positive contribution, and we encourage our clients to think about the long-term performance and sustainability of their homes.
This might involve upgrading an existing house with better insulation, windows and services, or choosing building materials with a lower carbon footprint — known as embodied carbon, which is the total carbon emitted during the production and transport of materials. Wherever possible, we also aim to use locally sourced and responsibly manufactured products.

As part of our commitment to sustainability, we have a certified Passive House Designer on our team. Their expertise supports all our projects, helping to guide environmentally responsible decisions — even when full Passivhaus certification isn’t the goal.
Passivhaus is a globally recognised building standard focused on ultra-low energy use and year-round comfort. It sets high targets for insulation and airtightness, and aims to reduce thermal bridging — areas where heat can leak out of a building more easily, like corners or junctions. The process includes careful modelling and external checks at both design and construction stages. A certificate is only awarded if the finished building meets all the performance criteria in full.
Whether or not certification is pursued, the core principles — energy efficiency, precision, and a “fabric-first” approach — are central to how we work.
